As one of the gathering professions, mining has always been a good gold farming profession in World of Warcraft, even more so now with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

Even though I play a Mage, I have held on to my mining profession – even though there are better gathering and crafting professions that are better suited to my class of character, such as Herbalism and Alchemy. But I’ve always found mining to be too lucrative to ditch, now I’ve reached level 80 and achieved the level of Grandmaster at mining.

Having maxed out my mining skill to level 450, I’m now able to mine titanium ore in Northrend. I’ve found that Icecrown is the best place to farm titanium which is found hidden within the nodes of Sarsonite and is thus a relatively rare spawn. As such, there is gold to made from farming titanium in WOTLK.

But probably an even better gold making tip if you are a high level miner is the ability in WOTLK to make the much sought after Titansteel.

Titansteel is a transmutable metal and this ability is learned from a Grandmaster Mining Trainer for the princely sum of 20g. The smelting of Titansteel requires a forge, but can only be smelted every 20 hrs. This timer limits the supply of Titansteel and thus increases its demand which translates in a great gold making opportunity for us.

Titansteel is used for many epic items in WOTLK, from epic gear to Choppers and Hogs. So, it won’t come as a great surprise that Titansteel in very expense to buy on the Auction House and offers a great opportunity for profit if you can either make it or buy it cheaply on the Auction House for later resale.

But if you’re looking to pick up a cheap Titansteel bargain at the Auction House, you’ll need deep pockets. Try scouring the Auction House during mid-week and reselling your loot at the weekend. You should make a good profit.
